From funnel-neck drama to cropped-trench tailoring; these trend-forward pieces will elevate your street style as temperatures drop

Welcome, fall — that crisp change in the air means it’s time to drape ourselves in outerwear that isn’t just about warmth, but attitude. As the leaves turn and shadows grow long, every step outdoors is an opportunity to bring boldness, texture and edge into our every day fits.

This season, we’re trading boring, bulky layers for pieces with sharp silhouettes and gothic charisma.

Throughout FW25 runway shows, a few outerwear trends have stood out for their ability to merge aura with utility.

  • Funnel-neck coats and jackets — high collars that punctuate the silhouette, seen on designers like Valentino, Chloé, Coach and Khaite.
  • Shearling, fur and faux-fur statement pieces — sweeping dusters, dramatic trims and voluminous silhouettes that bring both warmth and texture. Burberry, Stella McCartney, Marni, Fendi, Valentino, Prada and Dolce & Gabbana collections leaned into cozy luxury with fur and fur-look fabrics.
  • Cropped trenches and sculpted silhouettes — shorter trenches and strong tailoring that cuts through the cold with shape and structure steeped in playful rebellion. Burberry showcased cropped trench jackets in leather and floral while Balenciaga, Givenchy and Rokh showcased outerwear with exaggerated proportions, sharp tailoring and architectural lines. These tweaks make the coat not just functional, but a focal piece of any elevated ensemble.

With these runway moments in mind, we’ve compiled a trend-forward outerwear edit to carry into the colder months with style.
