Actors are good at surprising their fans by taking on seemingly “normal” jobs when fame no longer serves the purpose. A career change in politics is the kind of idea the actor has been flirting with, McConaughey confirmed he is considering running for Governor of his home state.  According to recent polls, Matthew McConaughey would stomp GOP Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in a race for the state’s top job, indicating that McConaughey stands a pretty good chance. Are fame and popularity enough to get him a top job though?

The 51-year-old actor is known for his roles in “How to lose a guy in 10 days” and “Magic Mike, now as a possible politician running for Governor of Texas. The actor has not revealed whether he would run as republican or democrat, voters in a poll entertained the notion of McConaughey having a seat at the table. Forty-five percent of the state’s voters said that they would vote for Mr. McConaughey if he were to challenge Gov. Greg Abbott next year, according to the poll, conducted by The Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas, Tyler.

An additional 33 percent of voters said they would support the incumbent, while 22 percent said that at this early stage, they would prefer to choose someone else like the previous candidate Beto O’Rourke.

Attorney, politician and former lobbyist David Jolly took to Twitter revealing poll results saying “Matthew McConaughey may be a viable candidate for Texas governor; poll shows actor ahead of Abbott”, needless to say, observers on Twitter weren’t super excited about the poll’s findings, disregarding his views on politics and lack of experience for the role.

I mean if our very own “Terminator” could run for governor of California, why can’t our all “American Golden boy” do the same?
