The long journey has ended, and justice has been served in the long-awaited journey of injustice against black lives. Naturally mixed emotions swept the room, as two lives were ideally lost. An innocent unarmed man died, leaving behind his daughter and family that loved him dearly. Unpopular opinion, the accused policeman Derek Chauvin lost his life too.

The jury finds former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, who knelt on Floyd’s neck for more than five minutes, guilty on all counts. After a three-week trial, a 12-person jury, consisting of a decent ethnicity group of six white and six black men and women, a 10-hour verdict was reached. The accused is guilty! The majority of Americans displayed their joy, voicing the change towards the American justice system, instilling some sort of hope towards the future. A lot of politicians voiced their approval, and unreasonable actions towards the victim on that faithful day George Floyd was killed in the street.

President Joe Bien took to Twitter saying, “The guilty verdict does not bring back George Floyd. But through the family’s pain, they are finding purpose so George’s legacy will not be just about his death, but about what we must do in his memory”

Another positive comment came from US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, who represents a district that includes Minneapolis, “This feels different for our community, justice feels new and long overdue”

The Black Lives Matter Movement made it clear, that this is a step forward, but it’s a clear indication of how broken the justice system is.

General consensus shows American’s are very happy with the verdict, as crowds gathered in Minneapolis, shouting “Say his name! George Floyd!” and “Guilty on all three!”

Although a lot of positivity came from this case, and it’s a significant moment towards change, some remain skeptical as a lot of black Americans are still losing their lives at the hands of policemen, who are supposed to protect and not hurt.
