As we enter the cold winter months, many people find the change in weather to be a major stressor on their skin. This often results in dull, dry, and flakey skin as the outer layer loses its natural moisture from the harsh winter temperatures and dry air from indoor furnaces.

To combat these effects, it’s important to invest in your skin. This not only requires staying on top of your skincare routine and ensuring you’re using quality products but also finding a hydrating facial that you can do regularly to restore and protect your skin’s moisture barrier.

Aside from all of the amazing cosmetic benefits that come with getting a facial, it’s also a great opportunity to relax and indulge in some well-deserved “me-time”, which is exactly what I had the pleasure of doing when I visited Toronto’s Beauty Room to try out the Deluxe Dermaplaning Facial with Collagen.

Amanda Chui is an esthetician who specializes in permanent makeup and skincare. Her passion for the industry and determination to own her own business before turning 30 lead her to open Beauty Room in 2012. Just a few years ago, Beauty Room relocated to a newly renovated space where Amanda continues to build the spa within the Liberty Village community.

When I arrived at Beauty Room, Amanda evaluated my skin, inquired if I had any particular concerns and we worked together to choose the best facial to meet my needs. We decided to go with the Deluxe Dermaplaning Facial with Collagen, a perfect facial for the harsh winter weather as the dermaplaning removes dead skin from the surface of your skin allowing the peel to penetrate deeper, and the collagen works to hydrate, stimulate collagen production (anti-ageing), soothe and plump the skin.

For clients who deal with active acne or very textured skin (lots of bumps), it’s recommended to skip the dermaplaning process and opt for just the collagen portion of the facial, which is suited for all skin types and can be enjoyed monthly.

Before the facial:

Avoid any active products such as AHAs, Retinols, BHAs, Benzoyl Peroxide, and exfoliants for a few days before the treatment

The Process:

  • Cleanse
  • Dermaplane
  • Glow or Detox Peel is applied
  • Light extractions
  • A high-frequency is used to disinfect the skin
  • Collagen serum is applied, followed by a collagen sheet mask
  • The sheet mask is then saturated with a hydrating activator and covered with foil to keep in the moisture and heat for optimal results
  • While the mask works its magic, you are treated to a neck and shoulder massage
  • Finally, when the mask is removed, the finishing products are applied to your skin to nourish, hydrate, and protect it

Post-care:

  • Avoid touching your face for 24 hours
  • Avoid active products for 3-4 days post-treatment
  • Avoid any products that will dry out your skin, only use nourishing and hydrating products
  • Ensure you use SPF daily

Around 2-3 days after receiving the facial, I started to notice results. The texture of my skin was smooth and appeared more radiant and dewier than usual after applying my skincare routine. The collagen added a plumping effect and I received multiple compliments from family members at a holiday dinner only a week after the treatment.

The Dermaplaning Facial with Collagen is an amazing remedy for winter skin, involving little to no downtime and providing quick results. I’ve already recommended the service to friends, family, and colleagues and highly encourage you to head over to Beauty Room and book this facial so you too can enjoy an afternoon of relaxation and self-care – your skin will thank you!
