Talk to us about your passion for music and your journey within the industry- how did it all begin?

I’ve been singing ever since I could talk. I love it so much, and it’s always been a passion of mine. I started taking lessons at age 7 in Memphis, Tennessee with Bob Westbrook. From there he took me to a competition in L.A. called iPOP! I ended up winning first place in my division, which was awesome!

I got to meet a producer Marc Williams and C-Ray Roberts and started working with them. They introduced me to Autumn Rowe and so on and so forth! That’s how I got into everything right now!

Your new single, Kiss N Tell, was produced by the 2022 Grammy-Award Winner (Best Album, Jon Batiste) Autumn Rowe. Tell us more about this song and what we can expect when listening to it.

This song was super exciting to create. I created it with producer C-Ray, and Autumn and I co-wrote it together. I love working with them and creating songs- we always have a good time!

This song came from a conversation between Autumn and me. I was talking to a couple of guys at the time and didn’t want anything serious, and I asked Autumn, “Why can’t a girl just have fun and date around in a way and not take anything seriously?” Then Autumn said, “Sophia that’s the song!”

How does a typical songwriting or recording session go? Can you give us some behind-the-scenes details?

I feel like everyone’s different but for me, I like to go into the studio and start from scratch with everybody. I’ll send my producer some songs or references I want to go from but we start from scratch to build the track together. I then put in my intake about what I like and don’t like. Then, I start writing from there.

I like to record the day of, sometimes, if we have enough time throughout the day.

Your most notable hits include Close to MeI’m Good (2021), Not That Into You (2020), Beside Me (2019), and Can’t Stop Thinking About You (2018). Where does the inspiration behind your music come from?

I have a lot of things to talk about, just like any teenage girl!

It’s like a Taylor Swift moment- I like to talk about my relationships and breakups. I think it’s fun and fresh, and every girl and guy can relate to it. They’re a topic for a lot of songs right now and that’s my inspiration!
