As noted in the interview, Smith met her now relationship, David LaQua, during a casual lunch. When he went out of town one day, she went to the hospital where she had been admitted 3 days before. LaQua messaged her while she was in the hospital, asking her to meet up and catch up. When she mentioned she was actually staying in the hospital, he showed up the next day with “the sweetest” card and flowers in which the duo sat and talked for hours.

Smith then notes that he visited her practically every single day for the rest of her hospital stay to stay with her. She also details that they actually had their first kiss in the hospital during a movie date.
