Hear about how the Irish actor was reportedly rushed to the hospital after experiencing signs of a heart attack.

As noted in this related article, Scottish broadcast journalist Gordon Smart revealed on a recent episode of BBC’s The Good, The Bad and the Unexpected that both he and actor Jamie Dornan were admitted into a hospital in Portugal last year. 

Smart described an evening in March 2023 of drinking espresso martinis and wine when, suddenly, he felt a “tingling in my left hand and tingling in my left arm.” Smart concluded they were “normally the sign of the start of a heart attack.”

With a heartrate of 210 BMP, Smart was admitted to a local hospital. “As I was lying there, one of the other lads I was with went past on a hospital bed with doctors shouting the same questions to him…And I thought, ‘That’s not a good sign that he’s in the same state as me.’”

Smart claimed the man was actor Jamie Dornan.

According to the same article, Smart left the hospital and said Dornan had “all this stuff attached to his chair.” Dornan reportedly told him, “’Gordon, about 20 minutes after you left, my left arm went numb, my left leg went numb, my right leg went numb. And I found myself in the back of an ambulance.’”

About one week later, Gordon Smart said he received a call from the doctor.

The doctor asked if his group encountered caterpillars while golfing. Smart was also sent a local news story by the doctor about processionary caterpillars. “It turns out that there are caterpillars on golf courses in the south of Portugal that have been killing people’s dogs and giving men in their 40s heart attacks. It turns out we brushed up against processionary caterpillars and had been very lucky to come out of that one alive.”
