Actor turns his Emmy absence into a powerful call for awareness and action on ALS research.

September 16, 2025 – Hollywood actor Eric Dane, best known for his roles in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has spoken out about his ongoing battle with ALS just one day after missing the 2025 Emmy Awards.

Dane’s Advocacy Video

In a video message released Monday, Dane urged lawmakers, the medical community, and the public to support faster progress in ALS research. Wearing an “I Am ALS” sweatshirt, he emphasized the urgent need for the renewal of the Act for ALS, which provides federal support for research and patient access to experimental treatments.

“This disease doesn’t wait, and neither should we,” Dane said, calling for broader funding and improved access to clinical trials.

Visible Health Struggles

Fans were struck by Dane’s visible progression of ALS in the video. The actor appeared with noticeable arm muscle twitching and slurred speech, signs he has previously acknowledged as part of his condition. Dane revealed earlier this year that the right side of his body has been particularly affected.

Emmy Absence and Support

Dane had been expected to attend the 2025 Emmy Awards but was unable to appear due to health concerns. Producers later confirmed they had been informed early about his absence. His friend and former Grey’s Anatomy co-star Jesse Williams honored him onstage, describing Dane as “my brother” and praising his strength in facing the illness.

Rallying Support for a Cause

Dane’s latest message underscores his shift from acting to advocacy. By highlighting the urgency of ALS research, he hopes to raise awareness, accelerate medical breakthroughs, and ensure patients have better access to life-saving treatments.

“ALS takes so much, so quickly,” Dane said. “But with enough focus, funding, and compassion, we can fight back.”
