If you haven’t heard of it yet, Onilium is an Ethical and Sustainable Statement Jewelry Designed in Toronto and Handmade in Colombia!
The Onilium line is designed at the intersection of romanticism and maximalism and includes, earrings, bracelets, necklaces, as well as other accessories. Most importantly, it is only made with ethically sourced materials from Colombia – they encourage customers to send in their pre-loved jewelry to recycle or to be restored by their artisans. Every item is handmade by local Colombian artisans, using recycled bronze double-plated in 24K gold or silver. The materials and craftsmanship that go into each piece are important elements of the collection.
These jewelry pieces are great gifts for the holiday season, as each one is unique and holds meaning and purpose behind them. The brand was founded in 2021, during the pandemic, by Barbara Palacio and based on the values of creating unique pieces that reflect the essence of each individual with social responsibility and sustainability in mind. Barbara, whom was born and raised in Medellin, Colombia, was inspired by her culture, as well as the world-renowned local talent and high-quality artistry of Colombian artisans, in the creation of Onilium’s first collection, ORIGINEM.
“I truly believe in the values that Onilium was founded on and think it is of the utmost importance that as the new generation of designers, entrepreneurs and so on, enter the fashion industry, we continue to push towards more socially conscious and ethical practices, as well as advocate and enact diversity and inclusivity”, said Babara herself.
Colombia: beautiful, magical and wild. In 1492 this land witnessed the encounter between Africa, Europe and South America, resulting in a people as diverse as its floral and fauna. The pieces in the collection reflect this diversity, from the Coral off of the white sandy shores, to the colored birds and plants, and the colonial architecture.ORIGINEM – the first collection of the brand, features 26 pieces that will be launched in two drops – the first dropped September 20th and the second is expected to drop later in 2021 so stay tuned!
