With phase 2 of legalization in Canada now rolled out, consumers can expect to see a large assortment of cannabis-infused edibles, vape products, beverages, and much more, available for recreational use at local dispensaries everywhere. This leads us to the question of what product is best for us, and how can we choose? We sat down with leading industry expert, and Chief Marketing Officer at High Park Company, Adine Fabiani-Carter to get all the answers.

What can we expect to see with these new product forms?

We are launching a wide range of new, unique brands and products to meet different consumer preferences including edibles, confectionery goods, CBD beverages and vape products. As with all our products, we’re focused on bringing to market high-quality, trusted and innovative offerings that meet the demands of every adult Canadian consumer. 

The new brands we’re bringing to market include, Chowie Wowie our new edibles brand with perfectly crafted fusions of flavour initially offered in two flavours of gummies and chocolate; Rmdy., our new wellness brand that offers CBD-rich, non-combustible cannabis products including CBD mints, CBD melts and all-in-one vape pens; and Fluent, our joint venture with Labatt Breweries of Canada, introduced a new beverage brand, Everie, a 98% pure CBD-infused beverage line, launching with ready-to-brew teas. 

We’re also excited to bring beloved US brands, Goodship and Marley Natural to the Canadian market. Goodship will roll-out its first Canadian collection with gourmet cannabis-infused chocolates, and Marley Natural will launch in Canada with quality-tested vape products starting with Marley Green vape cartridges containing CO2 winterized hybrid cannabis oil, with no additional additives or flavours. 

Lastly, Canaca, Canada’s beloved cannabis brand, and an anchor of the High Park portfolio is introducing an all-in-one vape pen and vape cartridge containing pure cannabis THC distillate and no additional additives or flavours.

With the second wave of legalization, we now have more options than ever. For someone new to edibles, what 3 products would you recommend as a starting point and why?

The non-alcoholic CBD-infused beverages sound interesting. Can you tell us a little more about those?

We’re very excited about our joint venture with Labatt Breweries of Canada, Fluent. Fluent recently announced the first non-alcoholic CBD-infused beverage of their portfolio – Everie. Everie is a 98% pure CBD-infused beverage line with all-natural flavours, launching with ready-to-brew teas. The teas will be available in three flavourful blends: Lavender Chamomile, Vanilla Rooibos, and Peach Ginger. These beverages have less than 0.05mg of THC, allowing adults to consume the products knowing that there will not be psychoactive effects.

Everie will also launch sparkling beverages in early 2020, so make sure to keep an eye out for that as well.

In general, what is the most popular product form right now, and why do you think this is?

Currently, our most popular format is the whole flower. This is likely because it’s a product that consumers are familiar with. However, with the launch of “cannabis 2.0” products we expect to see more and more consumers move towards non-combustible formats. We’re very excited to be launching new brands and products that meet this growing demand.

Where do you predict the trend going next?

With cannabis 2.0 products new to the market, 2020 is going to be an exciting year for the industry. According to a 2019 Deloitte study, it’s anticipated that cannabis-infused edibles will be a leader amongst 2.0 products. It’s estimated they’ll be worth C$1.6 billion annually, compared to C$2.7 billion for the total market share of alternative cannabis products. We’ll continue to see the industry evolve as new and innovative products come to market, offering consumers more choice and increased access to safe, quality-tested products. We also expect significant changes in ‘social acceptability’ and de-stigmatization to come with the next wave of new form factors. 

Which product are you personally most excited about?

It’s so hard to pick a favourite product, I always say it’s like choosing a favourite child. Overall, my excitement comes from seeing the wide range of innovative new products our team is bringing to market, with something for every Canadian adult consumer to enjoy. It’s exciting to be at the forefront of this continuously evolving industry.
