Tang recently sat down with HOLR to discuss True Match Foundation through a content creator lens, diving into everything from the brand’s newest innovation in shade matching to how she feels about being the face of the L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation global campaign. Check out our full conversation below.
How did you get your start in the beauty world as a content creator?
I started in 2016, 2017. I started creating content centered around my struggles with joining the beauty community. I joined it at 21, so I feel like I was a little late. I think when I realized that this wasn’t going to be as easy as I thought it was going to be- going to the stores and trying to find shades and all of that with my skin tone- that’s when I was like I need to do something about this or at least speak on it. That’s how I started creating my content.
Talk to us about what it’s like to be the face of L’Oréal Paris True Match Foundation.
It’s honestly surreal! It’s one of those career highs that you just will never get off of, even seeing my face on gigantic posters. Really, honestly, the biggest part of it for me has been the messages I’ve gotten so far from people saying, “Wow, I never thought I could see someone who looked like me in a campaign this size.” It’s just the sweetest thing. I think that level of representation, I’ll never be able to wrap my head around it. A global campaign- it’s just insane!
Why is the True Match Foundation your go-to?
I mean, it was always my go-to! When I first started playing with makeup, L’Oréal Paris, was one of the first and most accessible. Back then, I was wearing shade C10 because that was their darkest shade and it was something that I could actually work with within the drugstore. Now that I have C12 it’s just a no-brainer. They always have a shade that I can make work for me.
What do you love most about working with L’Oréal Paris?
I mean, they’ve just always been a consistent partner. They’re always had my back in situations when I have some push back and I think honestly the fact that they’ve always had something I could gravitate towards makes that relationship so much stronger. When I first started working with them, it was on True Match a long time ago. To now have it come so full circle is amazing. I’ve also done the Women of Worth and I love that. I actually got a chance to meet Viola Davis and I literally fangirled. They just do things that matter and mean so much to me. I’m just so thankful to be a partner with L’Oréal Paris.
