Jamie Lee Curtis Opioid Addiction

Jamie Lee Curtis just recently celebrated twenty four years of sobriety this February. In a recent interview, she reflected on the time she spent as an addict how she sees the opioid addiction crisis today.

Jamie Lee Curtis’s addiction spanned a decade from 1988 to 1999. By this time she had already starred in several hit films like ‘Halloween’ and ‘Charlie’s Angels’.

This time was, as she says, her “10-year run, stealing, conniving. No one knew. No one. [she] was ahead of the curve of the opiate epidemic”.

There is no shortage of relief and gratitude from Curtis when she looks back at that time. She seen the lives of those who did not recover saying “There are women in prison whose lives have been shattered by drugs and alcohol, not because they were violent felons, not because they were horrible people, but because they were addicts. I am incredibly lucky that that wasn’t my path”

She became addicted after a plastic surgery procedure that “didn’t work” and she was prescribed “Vicodin” as a pain reliever. Today opioids are more accessible than they have ever been before.

Jamie Lee Curtis pulls no punches on the seriousness of her addiction saying, “if fentanyl was available, as easily available as it is today on the street, I’d be dead”.

But she sees her sobriety as a key. Her “key to freedom“. This key lets her look in the mirror with peace, she says, “I look in the mirror. I see myself. I accept myself. And I move on because you know what? The world is filled with things we need to do.”
