Whether you know Kaitlyn Bristowe from her podcast Off the Vine, her time as the Bachelorette or for her win on DWTS, one thing is for sure, she knows how to set goals and effectively achieve them. This month Kaitlyn has partnered up with Special K to encourage people to reach their health resolutions beyond the typical drop off date of January 17th. I spoke with Kaitlyn about her health habits what motivates her and the power of manifestation and sticking to your goals.

Can you tell me about your partnership with Special K?

For sure, through 2020 I was like I really need to take care of myself mentally and physically. Especially with going on Dancing with the Stars, I really wanted to be feeling like the strongest and my best self. So that’s what I did. I prepared by going boxing, lifting weights, I would meditate regularly. I just went into it feeling my best and I wanted to continue that momentum through 2021. I think everyone looks at the New Year and tries to have these outrageous goals, instead of just taking it one little baby step at a time like changing up your morning routine. I start with my five minute journal. I have a bowl of special K now. It’s simple little things that can start your day off on the right foot. So when I heard that Special K was doing a whole campaign around ‘Prove it Day’, which is kind of to prove it to yourself that you don’t have to give up on your goals. If you go to www.proveitday.ca you can actually scan your cereal box and unlock some motivational prizes. They’re giving away an exercise bike, a fitness tracker and others. So they’re trying to keep everyone motivated. January 17th is usually the day when everyone ditches their new years resolutions so that’s why Special K wanted to flip that script and make it a prove it day so that you can stay on track.

When you’re not feeling as motivated, do you have any habits or tricks that you do to get you back into the swing of things?

Honestly I listen to my body. I don’t push ,myself. I really wake up every morning and listen to my body. What does my body need? Is it nutrients? Is it more sleep? Is it a work out? and sometimes it doesn’t have to be always surrounding your diet. If you’re not feeling motivated, listen to your body. Do you need some extra sleep? And don’t feel guilty about it. I think in 2021 we all need to give ourselves a little more grace and forgiveness.

You’ve been pretty open about battling anxiety, what helps you when you get into that head space?

Anxiety is so sneaky because it will come out of nowhere and other times it’s triggered by something deeper and other times its linked to hormones. I’ve got so many tools in the pocket now after dealing with it for so many years but I think my main one is to meditate. I have a meditation app on my phone and the second I open it and it says ‘take a deep breath’ that’s what I do and just start listening to it and its been really helpful. I mean even if it helps for a little bit of time because my hormonal depression hits hard where I don’t even get out of bed sometimes. So again its just about giving yourself that grace and forgiveness and to know that so many people are going through the same thing.

You’re obviously very busy between running two businesses (Dew Edit and Spade and Sparrows), your podcast, singing career to name a few, how do you balance it all?

Each day is very different but I’m lucky that I have an incredible team that I work with that helps me with day to day things every day. I usually just have phone calls and meetings every single day from the little simple things to the much bigger things to keep up with all of the behind the scenes stuff. But I like to focus on the social media of it, I love connecting with people that are following Dew Edit and Spade and Sparrows. Customer service is a really big one for me but again, I’m lucky that I have a team because they help me to stay organized. I function in chaos and the team definitely helps me take off some of that work load.

How do you practice self-love?

It’s such a journey every day and I honestly call it homework because some days I don’t have that and some days I do. Again it goes back to those days when I am struggling with anxiety and depression, that’s when I have that mental battle with myself but its temporary and I always have to remember that. So it just comes down to that constant work on yourself and I am such a believer in therapy and just talking to a professional about it.
