The ‘Happy’ and ‘Ride Wit Me’ singers are expecting their first child together since rekindling their romance in 2021. Ashanti proudly showed off her baby bump.
Not only that, they declared their engagement two months ago. But sources are reporting that they are allegedly already married.
The smooth-sounding songstress said in a TV interview her heartthrob proposed to her while they were in their pajamas watching TV.
“It was so unexpected and she was shocked,” the singer said. “‘I cried. I gave him the biggest hug and kiss ever.” “I FaceTimed everyone I knew… I was overjoyed and shocked and surprised and happy kind of like all in one.”
Nelly and Ashanti Wedding?
The couple found their way back to each other after a decade-long dating. Ashanti and Nelly were first romantically linked in 2003 in the beginning of their illustrious R&B careers. Their relationship lasted ten years, coming to an end in 2013.
Although the two parted ways, they would reunite on stage in 2021 at the Ja Rule and Fat Joe verzuz (spelled as is) concert battle. Ja Rule is a long-time friend of the couple. Ashanti and Ja Rule have been label mates and music collaborators on several songs spanning many hits, such as Mesmerize and Always On Time
Nelly, is known for his mega-hit songs Dilemma ft. Kelly Rowland, Hot in Herre, Country Grammar, Body On Me ft. Akon, Ashanti, Over and Over ft. Tim McGraw.
Ashanti is celebrated for her blockbuster tunes, Foolish, Rock Wit You, Happy, What’s Luv (Fat Joe), Baby. The songstress is a Grammy Award winner and has received eight American Music Awards to her credit.
Sparks flew, and they seemed to pick up right where they left off to the delight of their fans.
Ashanti declared this time around is even better. Both knew it was going to be more special. As the two of them have declared to be lovers, friends, and business partners.

They are business associates as well. Nelly and Ashanti invested in a fertility company called Proov. It was founded by Dr. Amy Beckley, after Beckley suffered several miscarriages.
Proov introduces the first-ever best-at-home fertility tests for females and males. Fans were blessed with the couple’s announcement last year of their bundle of joy on the way.
Nelly and Ashanti Dating History
Nelly is a Father to four children including two biological children from previous relationships. He also adopted his Sister’s two children after she passed away from Leukemia in 2005. This will be Ashanti’s first child and Nelly’s third biological child.
Ashanti gave an interview to Essence Magazine in April 2024 happily stating “This new year of my life is such a blessing full of love, hope, and anticipation. Motherhood is something that I have looked forward to, and sharing this with my family, fiancé, and loyal fans, who have been so supportive of my career, is an amazing experience,” she said.
According to media sources TMZ, Page Six, and the Daily Mail, have all reported that Nelly 49, and Ashanti 43, were secretly married a few months ago, in December 2023. The sources state that court documents were filed in St. Louis, Missouri where Nelly is from.
Nelly and Ashanti have not released any details on the exact date, but are expecting their baby sometime in the summer.
