HOLR is dishing all the details on renforshort’s latest album drop, “dear amelia” plus where the 20-year-old Toronto alt-pop singer-songwriter will be performing this year. renforshort sat down with HOLR to chat about her album journey, favourite songs, and what we can expect in 2022!

Tell us about your music career- what influenced you, and how did you get started in the industry?

renforshort: For me, it was always what I wanted to do. Since I was young I knew I wanted to make music. For me, I spent all my free time writing songs. I learned about song structure and how to write songs. I did everything I could to try and learn. I put myself out there and posted covers on YouTube, plus I collaborated with people from all around the world.

It was natural for me and I did what I needed to do. The industry is a different story- it’s secondary to making music. I didn’t know how it worked at all, so I’m still learning.  It’s so interesting to be part of a group of people that are doing similar things.

Talk to us about the debut album and what listeners can expect.

renforshort: You can expect a lot! You can expect fun, uplifting happy vibes but also sadder, more chill more lyrical songs. I think it’s very focused on mental health- as most of my music is.

It’s just more mature.

Do you have any favourite songs off of dear amelia?

renforshort: I’d say “Julian, king of Manhattan”, “not my friend”, “better off”, “amelia”, are some of my favourites- I really love a lot of them!

You’ve also shared the stage with some other famous faces- what were those experiences like?

renforshort: They were really fun! When you get those experiences, you get to learn from people who have been around a lot longer than you. I like to just sit with the people I’m on the road with and just talk to them-  the best thing is to learn. I love to get different perspectives on things and hear people’s different stories.

renforshort recently collaborated with Travis Barker on “we’ll make this okay”- check out the link here for the full video!

What type of content or topics do you like to cover in your music?

renforshort: Mental health is probably number one for me. It feels the easiest to get out and I always go back to that. It’s so present in my life, and this is what is true to me and what I should be writing about.

What’s next for you? Are there any exciting projects you have coming up?

renforshort: I’m going on tour! I’m doing basically a world tour for “dear amelia”. I start in Australia in July and it wraps up in November in Europe. I’m going to be in Canada which is really exciting. The album coming out is really exciting.

I’ll continue to pump out music and play shows- I’ll also have fun merch.
