Meet Maggie Adhami-Boynton- the 15-year startup veteran is the CEO and Founder of ShopThing, which is one of North America’s first live video commerce platforms. ShopThing is taking the shopping app industry by storm with its innovative live luxury shopping platform, and HOLR is sitting down to chat with Maggie about the app’s continued success and her future goals.

About Maggie Adhami-Boynton

First, a little bit about Maggie and her role at ShopThing. Before starting and founding the brand, the Harvard University Master’s graduate helped scale one of Canada’s most awarded mobile app agencies, Plastic Mobile, as Vice President of Operations. She also became a member of the Havas Worldwide executive team following their acquisition of Plastic Mobile back in 2015.

Now, as the founder of ShopThing, Maggie is hyper-focused on creating and maintaining a culture of diversity and inclusion within the company. This is why ShopThing’s leadership team is comprised of 75% women and 100% persons of color, in which the brand is supportive of all identities and backgrounds.

Now, let’s get into the interview:

ShopThing is one of the fastest-growing luxury, live shopping apps in North America. How did your idea for the company come to be? Tell us about what users can experience when visiting ShopThing.

With an audience of over half a million, ShopThing is transforming the retail landscape through live video commerce. We work with top luxury brands including Saint Laurent Paris and Christian Louboutin, along with multi-brand retailers such as Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue, to deliver one-of-a-kind live shopping experiences.

Upon opening the app, users will see live shopping events across clothing, handbags, footwear, and more, hosted by our own Shoppers and influencers (myself included!). These are specially curated events that span preloved, contemporary, and premium luxury and include both seasonal and trend-focused campaigns, so we’re always bringing you the most relevant and fashionable finds at an amazing price.

As an industry leader in the commerce space, can you talk to us about how you’re focusing on creating a culture of diversity and inclusion that is supportive of all identities and backgrounds?

I am a firm believer that diversity and inclusion must come from the top. At ShopThing, 75% of our founding team are women and 100% are people of color! It is no wonder with that type of DNA that our workforce is also made up of 76% women – in an industry that bodes 31% across the board – and over 50% people of color. Diversity and inclusion are both core to our culture and our values at ShopThing and will continue to be a priority for us as we scale.

What are your future goals for ShopThing and what can we expect to see from the platform in 2022?

The future of ShopThing is very bright! We’re excited to be introducing more influencers, shopping events, and categories. A recent pilot for our pre-loved event went incredibly well, so you can definitely expect to see more there, along with beauty and other new categories. 

On top of that, we have an exciting redesign on the way that will absolutely change the live shopping space.
