When most people think of a vacation, they imagine lying on the beach and sipping cocktails all day. While it’s possible to do that on a cruise, there is so much more to experience than just sun and sand. From onboard activities and attractions to amazing destinations, a cruise ship vacation can be just as fun, if not more so, than other types of vacations.

Here are several ways to have some fun on your next cruise.

Game Nights

One of the best things about being on a cruise is that there are so many people to meet. And what better way to get to know your fellow travelers than by playing some games together? Cruise ships usually have a variety of game nights, from trivia to poker tournaments. So whether you’re a competitive person or just looking to have some fun, game nights are a great way to spend some time on your ship.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for something a little more low-key, there are usually plenty of board games and deck games available for passengers to play. You can even try the upside down pineapple as a message to fellow cruisers if you’re into that kind of game. Having a cruise vacation is about having fun, enjoying life, and doing something exciting.

Spa Services

After a long day of exploring, there’s nothing better than relaxing with a massage or other spa service. Most cruise ships have onboard spas that offer a variety of treatments, like facials, massages, and manicures/pedicures. And while the prices can be a bit higher than what you’d find at a land-based spa, the experience is worth it.

Not only will you be able to relax and rejuvenate, but you’ll also get to enjoy the amazing views from the spa deck. Trust us, there’s nothing quite like getting a massage while overlooking the ocean.

On the other hand, if you’re not into spa treatments, most cruise ships also have saunas, steam rooms, and Jacuzzis that you can use to relax. For instance, the Jacuzzi on the Disney Dream cruise ship even has a “bubble bath” feature.

Shore Excursions

One of the best parts about cruising is getting to visit multiple destinations without having to worry about packing and unpacking. And while you can always explore each port on your own, shore excursions are a great way to see the highlights of each destination while learning a little bit about the history and culture.

Additionally, you can attend some of the activities at the shore, that is usually not available for those who are just visiting for the day. For example, in Cozumel, you can take a glass-bottom boat ride to see the amazing underwater world without getting wet. This is something that most people who come to the island for the day would not be able to do.

From snorkeling and swimming with dolphins to hiking through rainforests, there’s an excursion for everyone.

Pools and Water Slides

Cruise ships are floating resorts, which means they usually have plenty of pools and water slides for passengers to enjoy. Whether you’re looking to take a dip, relax in a hot tub, or zip down a water slide, you’ll be able to find what you’re looking for onboard.

Just keep in mind that the pools can get pretty crowded during peak times, so if you’re looking for some quiet, it’s best to head to the pool early in the morning or later at night.

You can also find some great views from the top of the water slides. For example, on the Norwegian Epic, there is a waterslide that goes through a transparent section of the ship, so you can see the ocean as you zip down.

Night Life

If you’re looking to let loose and have some fun, cruise ship bars and nightclubs are the perfect places to do it. From dance clubs to piano bars, there’s something for everyone. And since most cruises take place over the weekends, you can party like it’s Friday night every night of your vacation.

Additionally, some cruises have cabarets,  comedy clubs, and other entertainment venues that offer evening shows. This is another sort of entertainment you can enjoy if you don’t want to spend your entire vacation drinking and dancing.

On the other hand, if you’re feeling lucky, why not try your hand at the casino? Whether you’re a high roller or just looking to have some fun, cruise ship casinos are a great place to do it. Most ships have casinos that offer a variety of games, like slots, poker, blackjack, and roulette.

Fitness Classes and Facilities

If you’re looking to stay active on your vacation, most cruise ships have gyms, fitness classes, and other recreational activities that you can participate in. Many ships also offer yoga and Pilates classes, as well as aerobics and cycling. And if you’re looking to take your workout to the next level, some ships even have rock climbing walls.

Of course, if you’re not interested in working out, you can always take advantage of the ship’s jogging track or walking path. These are great ways to get some fresh air and enjoy the views.

Shopping

Finally, onboard shopping is a great way to find souvenirs, gifts, and other items you may need during your vacation. From duty-free shops to jewelry stores, there’s no shortage of places to spend your money onboard. And since most cruise ships have a variety of shops, you’re sure to find what you’re looking for.

Another great thing about shopping onboard is tax-free shopping. This means you won’t have to pay any taxes on the items you purchase, while you can often find good deals on items. For instance, many cruise lines offer discounts on duty-free liquor and cigarettes. So if you’re looking to save money, be sure to take advantage of these deals.
