Hart to Heart
Andy Samberg was recently invited to be a guest on “Hart to Heart,” an interview show on Peacock hosted by comedian Kevin Hart. Samberg is widely known for appearing on the sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live from 2005 to 2012. Although he left the show 12 years ago, many fans still quote and remember hilarious moments created by Samberg on the show.
Although fans recall pleasant memories from his SNL days, Andy Samberg didn’t have the best comments to say about his time spent on the show. He recalled the show taking a heavy physical and mental toll on him. “Physically, it was taking a heavy toll on me and I got to a place where I was like I hadn’t slept in seven years basically,” Samberg said, as noted here. His days became consumed with SNL. He went from writing rooms to table reads and each piece ensured less and less time Samberg spent on his own wellbeing.

When the time came to decide his fate on SNL, Samberg was fearful of the choice he wanted to make. He consulted with castmate and fellow comedian Amy Poehler as well as some of the other cast and crew members apart of the team at the time. “They told me straight up, ‘We prefer you would stay,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, that makes it harder,’” Samberg added about his exit. “But I just was like, I think to get back to a feeling of like mental and physical health, I have to do it. So I did it, and it was a very difficult choice.” (here)
Samberg was afraid he had lost his creative outlet with his SNL exit, but luckily, he was able to find a new purpose and sense of inspiration in the popular TV sitcom Brooklyn Nine-Nine. He starred in the show from 2013 to 2021. Although Andy still has a place in his heart for SNL, it is clear he made an important decision for his own well-being. Now, the world awaits what’s next in his creative endeavors.
