Back in the day, Crocs were a staple piece in everyone’s closet. Everyone had one or more pairs, and for sure had some pins to put in them and decorate them. Then, they started to become less popular and even frowned upon by a lot of people. Well…you need Crocs in your life and here’s why.

We bet you didn’t imagine it, and it came as a surprise when Academy Awards’ musical director, Questlove, wore a pair of crocs on the Oscars red carpet this year. But they were spray-painted gold for the special occasion.

Let’s be real, whether you love them or loathe them, Crocs are making a comeback.

Crocs reported record sales in the first three months of the year. And raised its revenue outlook for 2021. Sales rose 64% to $460 million in the first quarter, compared to the same period last year. Pre-tax profit grew to $122.5 million between January and March from a previous $18.7 million.

Crocs’ chief executive, Andrew Rees, now expects sales for the full year to rise by as much as 50%. Compared to an increase of up to 25% the company predicted in February.

Demand for Crocs is “stronger than ever” across the world, said Mr. Rees.

Branded by some as the “it-shoe” of the pandemic, people have turned to the divisive footwear company for comfy clogs to pair with leggings and hoodies during lockdown.

Crocs Key To Success: Collabs

Crocs started working with celebrities and pop stars to boost its popularity again.

Back in 2018, it partnered with rapper Post Malone who designed his own shoe – which still slightly resembled Swiss cheese.

One of their most impactful collaborations was with the one and only, Justin Bieber. Bieber first teamed with the brand in October 2020. They created a limited-edition style of the Classic Clog in his Drew House brand’s signature yellow hue. The style came with eight custom Jibbitz, including the Drew House smiley face logo, rainbows, daisies, and pizza slices. The first collaboration sold out within two hours in the U.S., according to the brand.

Justin and his Drew House fashion label are teaming with the shoe brand for the second time to create another version of the brand’s classic clog. The Crocs x Justin Bieber Class Clog 2 is designed in lavender colour with a fixed back strap. The style comes with cartoon-like Crocs charms, called Jibbitz, and a pair of Drew House branded white gym socks.

“Crocs with socks is definitely the move,” Bieber said in a statement. “They’re comfortable, they’re fashionable, and most importantly it’s fun to bring your own style to how you wear them.”

They continue making power moves with its latest collaboration with Diplo. The brand is teaming with the Grammy-winning DJ for a psychedelic-themed two-style collection. The collaboration includes the brand’s Classic Clog and new Classic Crocs Sandals with eight glow-in-the-dark Crocs’ charms.

“I wear my Crocs literally everywhere so I’m stoked to have some with my name on them and that others can get them, too,” Diplo said in a statement. “Crocs helped me bring my adventures to life with these designs and the three-dimensional, light-up and glow-in-the-dark mushroom Jibbitz charms are cooler than I could’ve imagined. Now fans can take a walk with me in either the Classic Clog or Crocs Classic Sandal.”

Diplo’s Classic Clog style is designed in pink, blue and yellow paint swirl pattern, and features a 3D mushroom Jibbitz charm. The musician’s Classic Crocs Sandal — which marks the brand’s first collaboration on the new style — is designed in a yellow, orange and blue paint swirl pattern and comes with glow-in-the-dark Jibbitz.

And just like that, these shoes are definitely making a comeback, and they’re here to stay. Let’s be real, we all used to love Crocs back in the day, so it’s time to give the footwear a second chance and enjoy the comfort and statement fashion piece that they are.
