Descendants: The Rise Of Red Released Today On Disney Channel

July 13th, 2024: Disney releases “Descendants: The Rise Of Red.” It’s the fourth movie in the channel’s franchise, and it has sparked mixed emotions.

Disney Channel released the popular “Descendants” franchise back in 2015. It starred Dove Cameron, Sofia Carson, Cameron Boyce, and Booboo Stewart. The first movie’s premise is that the kids of Disney villains get the opportunity to go to school with the kids of “heroes” and royalty. After their arrival, they must decide what type of people they want to be: follow their parents’ actions or make their own path.

The movie was a hit, and two other films followed the first before “The Rise of Red” was considered. This movie released almost ten years after the original, opens up the opportunity for a new audience to take an interest in the franchise. This also means that many mixed emotions were sparked about the continuation of the series, namely, the continuation after the death of actor Cameron Boyce.

Cameron Boyce Death

Cameron Boyce was a famous actor known for many roles on the Disney channel. One of his most popular roles is Carlos, the son of Cruella de Vil, in the Descendants franchise. Unfortunately, in July 2019, Boyce passed away from complications from an epileptic seizure. He was honored during the premiere of the third movie in the franchise because he passed away before the movie’s release.

His passing shocked fans and those close to him, which is why the idea of another Descendants movie was also difficult to acknowledge. Although the new movie doesn’t follow the original characters that fans have grown to love, they do honor Cameron within the movie. Actress and friend of Cameron’s, China Anne McClain, reprised her role in the 2nd and 3rd movies as Uma, the daughter of Ursula. Now, the school principal, McClain’s character,  has a picture of Boyce on the wall. She also mentions that some of her new decisions as principal were made in honor of her friend.
