July 28th, 2024 – Actor Robert Downey Jr. will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a new role.

Avengers Doomsday – Caution: Spoilers Ahead

This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, Marvel had many exciting announcements for fans. Many different Comic-Cons happen yearly, and fans gather to celebrate and share the love of many popular characters. Marvel isn’t the only company to have fans at Comic-Con either. Star Wars, DC Comics, and many other popular franchises include events for their fans to enjoy and sometimes bond with actors, writers, and the people behind their favorite movies, TV shows, and more.

This year in San Diego, Marvel announced many upcoming projects, including the next Avengers movies. Along with those announcements came a mystery masked man in green. Marvel fans recognize the character as Dr Doom, a known villain in the Marvel Universe. To the audience’s surprise, Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. unmasked himself as Dr.Doom. The actor previously played Iron Man, starting the Marvel Universe back in 2008. He left the Iron Man role in 2019 after his character sacrificed himself to save the world in Avengers: Endgame.

Some fans started speculating about what Robert Downey Jr’s new role will entail. The Marvel Universe isn’t new to manipulating time, reality, and anything unnatural. The “Multiverse” is where many universes cross paths in a certain story/series. Fans believe that RDJ’s new character might be a variant or different version of Tony Stark (Iron Man) in a different universe. It could open up this new chapter of the Marvel universe to cross paths with other beloved characters. However, at this time, nothing else has been confirmed about the movie. Right now, all fans can do is imagine what they want next from the MCU.
