Motivation creates drive and drive is what allows us to achieve our goals. However, gaining motivation can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. So how do we push past the feeling of being not motivated? It is not an easy task by any means and anyone who tells you, your just lazy for not being motivated clearly lacks empathy. So firstly, let’s get into figuring out why you just can’t seem to get motivated.

Not wanting to leave your comfort zone.

The comfort zone can be so detrimental in achieving our goals because we have no desire to leave, identify whether we’re in the comfort zone. Ask yourself these three questions – Am I growing in the position I’m in right now? How do I feel about the position I’m in? Do I have a desire to grow or develop certain things in my life? Once you have established whether or not you’re stuck in the comfort zone, it will be easier to move out of it. The most important step is admitting you’re stuck in the comfort zone.

Self -doubt

Self-doubt can cause you not to be motivated, breaking the self-doubt cycle is imperative. So, if you find that you are constantly doubting yourself and it’s hindering your motivation try to practise these few things. Mantras are a great way to break the self-doubt cycle going on in your mind. Focusing on all the things you have gotten right in the past even when you doubted yourself. Speaking to a positive family member or friend for some encouragement is always a good idea to get you up and running again.

Mental health

Your mental health is important, and before trying to achieve anything, ensure that your mental health is okay. If you suffer from anxiety or depression you might first want to get a handle on them so that you are strong mentally to achieve your goals. Seek professional medical help and understand that there is no shame in needing medication to cope on a daily basis. This will actually help you on your journey in finding and staying motivated.

Find motivation in the mundane things of life such as taking a shower and getting dressed for the day, this simple task can spark motivation to achieve your goals for the day. Creating small goals for yourself helps you find motivation for the bigger things, grow your goals on a daily basis start off with small things and work your way up until you are ready to achieve the big things and this is how motivation works. Once you’ve got the momentum going the easier it will become to stay in this habit. Limit your social media time as social media is an ugly breeding ground for self-comparison which in turn builds up animosity towards yourself. Remember to show yourself some compassion, create a kinder inner dialogue and take it step by step. Motivation is right on your front door just learn to open it.
