It all began at the end of July when Scarlett Johansson filed a lawsuit against Disney+ for a breach of contract. Disney had released Black Widow in theatres and on their streaming platform, even though it was stated in Johansson’s contract that Black Widow would be exclusively released in theatres. A large portion of Johansson’s salary would come from the box-office sales for the film, it has been estimated that she lost 50 million USD.

This lawsuit had the potential for dramatic implications for all of Hollywood’s major studios. Johansson’s lawsuit brought out quite a bit of public support from others in the industry, including major stars including Jamie Lee Curtis and Elizabeth Olsen.

Disney had released a nasty statement about Scarlett Johansson at the time of her filing the lawsuit. Stating and attacking Johansson saying her filing was a “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

This quickly became a public feud where Scarlett Johansson’s agent quickly responded saying that Disney was trying “to weaponize her success as an artist and businesswoman.”

Thankfully, three months later this lawsuit has finally come to an agreement. While the details of the lawsuit have not been publicly released, there have been rumblings that she was paid out tens of millions of dollars. Both parties have agreed to also continue working together and have a few upcoming projects.

In a statement, Scarlett Johansson said, “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney, I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.”

Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman also stated “I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s Tower of Terror.”

Thankfully they have been able to come to an agreement and we will get some more Scarlett Johansson and Disney magic!
