The retailer is inviting consumers to play the role of head creative for a chance to win some stellar prizes.
Sneakers are no doubt the most versatile subject for any fashion enthusiast and all-around creative who dreams of the day where their ingenuity will transform into something wearable. Scratching that creative itch in both an accessible and punk-Esque manner can be easily attained by a little sharpie DIY on a blank white canvas like a Nike Air Force 1 or Vans Slip-on. However, shoe customization websites such as Nike ID let you explore every nook and cranny of your sneaker taste as you explore the countless combinations of colour and silhouettes available to you. Coming off the heels of their Fall 2021 campaign, Canadian accessory and shoe retailer ALDO is launching a creative contest to try and find the next Tinker Hadfield. The contestant who can bring together the most awe-inspiring sneaker will receive a cool reward of 5K as well as a limited run of their creation in select brick and mortar locations.
From September 17th to October 18th aspiring shoe designers can create and share their own sneaker interpretations through the microsite ALDOMyCollab. The interactive website lets contestants select a different portion of the shoe such as the side panelling or laces and apply a colour of their liking; slowly painting the creation to life. More than 40 different colour options and 10 additional customization features are available for contestants to choose from on the CREATEV2 sneaker for women, and V1 for men. The 2 models share some slight differences but ultimately resemble a functional yet stylish take on a pair of sleek trainers. Once the footwear lovechild is complete, an email address and a post of the design on social media with the hashtag ALDOMyCollab along with a tag of the ALDO brand is required in order to be submitted. Once finished, a jury of ALDO members will pick the best and brightest creations before opening things up to the online masses who will crown the final winner.
“Our goal with My Collab, is to give anyone and everyone from our global community the chance to live out some of their own creative dreams,” said ALDO senior vice president Daianara Grullon Amalfitano per a press release, “By providing them with an exciting interactive platform and the tools they need to freely play and explore, we hope to make their dreams of having their own branded collaboration come to life,”. Freshen up your knowledge on colour palettes, and look for the creative champion to be named on October 22nd.
