Relief has washed over the shoulders of actor Alec Baldwin. He was charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. However, the case was dismissed after the court accused the prosecution of withholding evidence.
Along with Baldwin, Assistant Director David Halls and Armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed were also charged in the incident. The court claimed negligence on both their parts. Halls pleaded no contest, while Gutierrez-Reed will now likely face up to 18 months in prison.

Baldwin was initially charged in the Rust shooting because the live bullet rounds came from his gun. The gun given to him by Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was supposed to have prop bullets. When the evidence was presented in court, it was proven that Baldwin’s gun, along with costar Jensen Ackles’ gun, had live bullet rounds. The reason why Baldwin was let off is because the prosecution failed to mention how the bullets found in the guns arrived on the “Rust set.
The defense found that investigators had received a batch of live ammunition from Troy Teske toward the end of the trial of Hannah Gutierrez Reed. Teske, a retired police officer in Arizona, informed the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office that the bullets would match the fatal round. The investigators wrote a report and logged the evidence but did not give it to the defense (here). That meant after being found withholding evidence that Baldwin’s charges could be dropped. Although Baldwin’s charges were dropped, the jury and court seemed to be in his favor if the case should have had to continue.
