Kraft Heinz Canada Stocks Food Banks and Equips Frontline Workers with PPE to Support Canadians During COVID-19.  Kraft Heinz Project Pantry partners with Food Banks Canada to offer 1 million meals to those affected by the pandemic. We spoke with Kraft Heinz Chief Administrative Officer, Av Maharaj,  to learn more about the program and the positive impact it is having on front line workers during this time of crisis.

Why was it important for Kraft Heinz to partner with Food Banks Canada?

Food Banks Canada serves 650 food banks across Canada and Kraft Heinz Canada has a long established relationship with the organization. Working with Food Banks Canada helps make our donations go further – so that experts in food security can manage distribution to serve those most in need.

Kraft Heinz Canada has a strong history of supporting communities and this much-needed commitment will help continue this legacy by ensuring Canadians in need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic have food on their tables.

In fact, over the past three years alone, Kraft Heinz has proudly provided CAD $28 million in food donations to communities in need across Canada, frequently in partnership with Food Banks Canada.

Can you tell us a little more about the initiative, Kraft Heinz Project Pantry?

Kraft Heinz Project Pantry is a new initiative to support Food Banks Canada. Through this program, we are donating 1 million meals to help Canadians in need as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We are also donating Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to help protect those working and volunteering on the frontlines of Canadian food banks.

Is Kraft Heinz making the PPE supplies or sourcing them?

We worked closely with our partners at Food Banks Canada to take a holistic look at what is needed most to continue to serve Canadian communities.

Food Banks Canada identified a pressing need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for those working and volunteering on the frontlines of Canadian food banks.

As part of Kraft Heinz Project Pantry’s donation, we were able to work with a third-party provider to secure and coordinate the delivery of 40,000 pairs of gloves and masks, as well as 3,900 jugs of surface cleaner to help frontline workers stay protected while they do this important work.

What’s the timeline like for delivering the food and the PPE supplies to Food Banks Canada?

Kraft Heinz will begin the delivery of food and PPE supplies to Food Banks Canada this week (the second week of May) and will continue deliveries over the course of the month.

What sort of food is Kraft Heinz donating?

The Kraft Heinz Project Pantry donation will provide funds to help Food Banks Canada purchase essential food and support items they need for the food banks across the network, based on their current demand and business needs.

In addition to our monetary donation through Project Pantry, Kraft Heinz has donated thousands of cases of our products to food banks all across Canada to help feed Canadians during this pandemic.

How can people get involved?

We encourage those who are able to make a monetary donation directly to Food Banks Canada, which can be done online (www.foodbankscanada.ca) or by phone without having to leave the house!

What impact will this initiative have on frontline workers?

Frontline workers’ and volunteers’ tireless efforts since this pandemic are making a meaningful difference by helping to ensure Canadians in need have enough food on their tables.

The PPE being delivered through Kraft Heinz Project Pantry, including masks, gloves, and hard surface cleaners, are vital products to help keep volunteers and frontline staff protected and healthy so they can continue to serve local communities during this time of need.
