With five Proseccos on LCBO shelves, Bottega spoils Prosecco lovers for the upcoming bubbly wine holiday.

Like many people, Prosecco is a wine that I always gravitate towards. I will happily admit that I am a sucker for those classic Prosecco aromas of green apple, honeydew melon, pear, and cream. Plus, I am in for a fine bubbly palate that perfectly mirrors the nose. Prosecco is the wine of summer, it is the easy-to-love bubbly, and it is a wine style continually filled with surprise, delight, and sometimes even wrapped in gold, especially if you are drinking the Prosecco wines of Bottega.

Prosecco Day is fast approaching, on August 13th, and there is so much to celebrate. Toast to a favoured classic bubbly wine. Raise a glass to cheer that Prosecco is a worldwide favourite, surpassing Champagne as the world’s choice for sparkling wine. And give Bottega a little bit of love too, the winery’s gold-wrapped Bottega Gold Prosecco DOC took first place in the IWSR’s worldwide Duty-Free and Travel Retail market ranking for the Champagne and Sparkling Wine Category. Those sparkling bottles of Bottega Gold and their other noteworthy Prosecco wines are a testament to Prosecco’s true power, worth celebrating this coming weekend.

Prosecco is Prosecco because of the winemaking style it is crafted with, its regional typicity, and the expression the wine shows in the glass. Only made in Italy, the northeastern regions of Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia are the only places where Prosecco is made. Crafted from Glera grapes, the bubbles in this wine are obtained through Charmat winemaking. Like all sparkling wines, Prosecco production includes two fermentations. The first is to create the cuveé (the base wine), and the second is to add the bubbles. In Charmat-made wines, like Prosecco, all this takes place in a tank. The base wine is placed in a large tank with a tirage mixture of grape juice and yeast that kicks off the second fermentation. This process of winemaking keeps the fresh style that Prosecco is known for.

The house started in the early 1600s, and family members went from wine traders to Grappa makers before becoming known for their Proseccos. Originally started by Aldo Bottega and his wine Rosina the winery torch was passed on to their son Sandro. Sandro always saw the passion and pleasure that winemaking gave his family and, upon taking over, expanded that vision to include Prosecco. Today the winery is still within the family. Sandro is joined by his mother and siblings, Barbara and Stefano. And each Prosecco made by Bottega can fit the vibe you are in for creating to celebrate this bubbly wine to the fullest.

For those in for taking advantage of the last days of summer outdoors, bring a couple of Bottega Gold mini bottles of Prosecco, the ideal tag-a-long wines for the day. Like this mini version’s full-size counterpart, Bottega Gold is defined as the glamour of sparkling wine by many. Admittedly it is also winery owner Sandro Bottega’s favourite wine from his collection. ‘This is a wine that goes with everything,’ according to Sandro. It doesn’t matter what you have, from appetizers to the main course, because this is one versatile wine. A spumante brut style, this Prosecco strikes on the dry side. The Bottega Gold production is marked by additional aromas of white flowers, touches of soft spices and a texture on the palate just like fine silk. This is a Prosecco that communicates the full breadth of the wine style. Whether you go for the mini bottle or the full-sized version, this Prosecco can pair with nearly any moment you can think of.

For those in for a glass of bubbly but prefer their wine on the rosé-y side, the Bottega Prosecco Rosé DOC is a wine that will turn any occasion into a celebration. Made in the same style as the classic, Prosecco Rosé takes its colour by adding Pinot Noir. Mixing together the flavours of the Glera grape and Pinot Noir makes for a Prosecco that is defined by bright pink mother-of-pearl colour with fruity aromas of apples, peach blossoms, white peach, wild strawberries and citrus notes and complemented by an expression on the palate that is fresh a delicate.

And finally, you can also explore a bit of the history of the Veneto region with the Il Vino Dei Poeti Proseccos by Bottega. The traditional Prosecco style and the Rosé have a name that refers to the poet’s festival head in the hills of Valdobbiadene and Conegliano, where Prosecco is made. The wine’s name translates to the poet’s win in English.

An artisanal style in the glass, the Bianco or White version of this Prosecco is filled with notes of quince, soft pastry notes, and a mineral edge. Followed by a palate that is done in an extra dry style, with just a touch of sweetness and flavour that ring true from the nose to the palate. For the Rosé style of the Il Vino Dei Poeti, you can expect an elegant mouse and vibrant wine on the palate perfectly complemented by the aromas of strawberry, raspberry and pastry notes of the wine on the nose.

Bottega Prosecco’s sold in over 140 countries today. And while the wines are tasty, the winery has a simple philosophy that keeps them making great wines now and for years to come. Make as many products as needed but only in small quantities, and never sacrifice quality, as Sandro likes to say. This philosophy of quality extends into every aspect of the house, including environmental measures. The Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity has recognized Bottega and has been a major participant in many global sustainability charities. Their wines are Grenner Certified, the winery is geothermally cooled, uses water recirculation and industrial purification, and grapes are framed organically and part of the RafCycle Program. They have addressed the total environmental impact of their packaging. At this point, the house is running at nearly Net Zero. The commitment to noteworthiness goes hand in hand with the iconic bottles of Bottega Proseccos can easily be spotted on LCBO shelves.

With Prosecco Day around the corner, stocking up for a celebration is necessary. Watch for Bottega Gold and more delightful Bottega Proseccos the next time you are at the LCBO. Transport yourself to the hills of Prosecco country and toast to this globally loved wine style.
