The White House has announced that it lacks the Funds to Support Victims of Hurricane Helene.

Today, homeland security secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) lacks funds to support victims of the recent hurricane.

FEMA has spent over a billion dollars on illegal immigrant services this year alone.

Many users have taken to TikTok to criticize Bidens administration in light of these recent developments.

Hurricane Helene Victims Lack Support

Hurricane Helene ravaged several US states in what AP is calling, “One of the worst storms in US history.”

With the death toll now over 200, victims have been left without food, water, shelter, and even cell service in the wake of this devastating storm.

Kamala Harris said that FEMA will provide $750 for families who have immediate needs to be met.

Over 150,000 families have applied for relief, the number is expected to grow.

What’s Being Done?

In an effort to counter the lack of funds, congress has provided $20 million in disaster relief to FEMA. President Biden has approved 100% federal cost for removal of debris over six months.

The White House announced that Biden will be deploying 1,000 active duty soldiers to assist in the delivery of food, water, and other supplies to those affected.

FEMA Lacks Funds

Mayorkas hasn’t specified how much additional money might be needed, Stating, “We are meeting the immediate needs with the money that we have. We are expecting another hurricane hitting… FEMA does not have the funds to make it through the season.” (also here)

The damages are reported to potentially reach over $35 billion.
