Following the Authorization from President Joe Biden. Ukraine has Launched American-made ATACMs into Russian territory. Russia Revises Nuclear Doctrine in Response.

November 20, 2024- Yesterday marked the 1000th day of conflict between Russia and Ukraine. A war that has displaced many Ukrainians and changed the global landscape as we know it.

With his time in office coming to an end, President Biden has authorized the use of American-made Army Tactical Missile Systems otherwise known as ATACMs to carry out strikes in Russian territory.  The first missiles were sent days after authorization was granted. This attack came on the same day that the Kremlin had revised their Nuclear policy.

Russia has used the threat of nuclear retaliation to deter Western nations from intervening in the conflict. A spokesman for the Kremlin, Sergei V. Lavrov, stated that the use of American-made missile systems is, “A signal that they want escalation.”

Amid the world conference at the G20 summit, Keir Starmer stated, “There’s irresponsible rhetoric coming from Russia, and that is not going to deter our support for Ukraine.” The British Prime Minister voiced his support for Ukraine and spoke on the continued issue of Russian nuclear rhetoric.

Russian Escalation

Russia had warned that the use of American ATACMs would begin a “new phase of the Western war.” This is following the missile strikes that were targeted in Russia’s Bryansk region.

The Kremlin reported that Russian air defense had shot down 5 of the launched missiles.

Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has reported that he expects North Korea to send as many as 100,000 troops to aid Russian war efforts as the 1000th day of fighting passes.

North Korea has already provided a smaller force to assist the Russians, yet the Ukrainian president seems confident that this number will only increase as the war continues to escalate.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict Escalates

The authorization from Biden comes just months before President-elect Donald Trump is supposed to take office. A final parting gift from the Biden administration.

Biden and many in others have been skeptical on the level of support that Trump will afford to Ukraine. Trump has guaranteed to end the war in many speeches and podcasts but has refrained on explaining just how he plans to do so.

He stated in a podcast with Joe Rogan that he has plans but cannot reveal them at this time. However, he has announced that he plans to employ a “peace envoy” to help expedite the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.

For now, the level of escalation that will result from the use of ATACMs remains to be seen. However, with 1000 days of fighting and many more to come it seems that global tensions are stretched thin and there is a lot of uncertainty about what the future has in store.
