According to this TikTok video posted by user @therealbobrossmom, there is a rumor going around that one of the munchkins from the set of the original Wizard of Oz film hung himself and it was captured in one of the movie’s clips.

The TikToker states that there is an alleged movie scene that showcases “proof” of the hanging in the original film but “real” colour version doesn’t depict it. The TikToker claims that the widespread belief is that the hanging version is the original version. However, in the “real” version, there is a bird in its place which outstretches one of its arms.
Is this just a big coverup to hide a death that occurred on set? Some people think so. However, the TikToker claims that this could be an editing fiasco that someone developed on YouTube. Although we don’t know for certain why there are different versions of this scene floating around the internet, there is no concrete evidence to support claims of this alleged hanging or death.

“Ive watched two versions, in one there is clearly a body hanging from a tree, swaying. In the other it’s CLEARLY a bird, unmistakable. They definitely edited it along the way and both copies are available on YouTube,” stated one user.
“I first heard about this when I was around 18. The internet was not what it is today, and all I had was a VHS copy taped from a television broadcast and a 19” screen. Yes, in 1998 it looked like a suicide if someone told you beforehand what to look for. A few years, a DVD and a larger screen was all it took to see it clear as day it’s just a bird,” said one user.
It looks like the internet is divided and we will never know for certain if that shadow is in fact someone hanging or just a bird.
