HOLR reports the sad news of an incident that left a 14-year-old child dead in northeast London near Hainault Station.

On Tuesday morning, a man armed with a long knife that resembled a sword was seen by witnesses standing near residential housing “jumping over some fences at about 7am,”

One witness heard the man allegedly shout, “[d]o you believe in God?” to both police and ambulance workers.

Police confirmed that a total of five people, including two officers, were injured in the incident. One of the people was a 15-year-old boy, who died of his wounds after being transported to the hospital. The other injured are currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries at the hospital.

Located in northeast London, Hainault is part of the borough of Redbridge.

Police confirmed in a statement, delivered by Chief Superintendent Stuart Bell, that Tuesday’s attack “does not appear to be linked to any acts of terrorism,”

According to a related article, police are investigating the suspect’s mental health.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak released a statement that his “thoughts are with those affected and their families,” and that this level of violence “has no place on our streets,”

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said the attack left him “devastated” and that he is “in constant contact with the Commissioner [of the Metropolitan Police],”

Khan urged the public to refrain from speculating “until the details of the incident are confirmed by the police” and to “avoid posting footage on social media,”

In his statement, Chief Superintendent Bell said police had a 36-year-old unnamed male in custody. The suspect was “tasered here at the scene and arrested 22 minutes after the first call was made to police,”

Police do not believe there is “any ongoing threat to the wider public,”
