Born and raised in Vancouver, young and talented Momona Tamada is someone to watch out for this year in the entertainment industry. She can be seen as one of the main characters in Netflix’s “The Babysitters Club” which premiered on July 3rd, 2020. She also appeared as young Lara Jean in Netflix’s popular film “To All The Boys: P.S. I Still Love You.” Her name symbolizes ‘hundreds of beaches,’ inspired by her hometown of Vancouver. Not only is she a talented actress, but in addition, an award-winning competitive dancer since the age of four. A couple of her highlight moments include performing in the BC summer games opening ceremonies and alongside the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. To top off her artistic skills, she also modeled for Lululemon athletic wear in the Iviva campaign.

How is this character like you? Or different?

Claudia and I share a lot in common. I love candy just like Claudia, and I always have a stash of them in my room too!! I also always loved arts and crafts, so I share the same love of expressing myself through art as Claudia. Another thing we share in common is our close relationship with our grandmas.

Something different from Claudia and me is that I usually don’t struggle with academics in school. I also have a pretty good relationship with my brother!

What’s the biggest challenge about taking on this role?

Claudia is such a loved character by people who have either read the books or watched the film, so there was definitely pressure to do the character justice. As you may know already, in some episodes, she faces her own emotional challenges and I wanted to make sure to dig deep into the root of her emotions.

Who do you look up to as an actor or director?

There are so many talented actors and directors!! It’s very hard to name one, but I look up Lana Condor a lot. I love “To All The Boys I Loved Before” and I had a chance to meet her when I was cast as the younger version of her character, Lara Jean. It was a dream come true for me! She is not only a talented actor but also very kind and down to earth!

What do you do for fun during your spare time?

I’m usually baking! I’ve had quite some free time during this quarantine, so I’ve been going on bike rides, baking, painting, and dancing of course!

What do you love about this character?

I love how fun and bold Claudia is. I loved reading about her because when I was younger, I was very shy and she was so bold and confident! She is always there for her friends, and getting to wear all her amazing clothes on set was amazing.

What makes a good scene partner?

Well, working in this industry, you never know who you will be paired with. But, it’s always more fun when your scene partner is engaged even when they are off-camera. I find it more difficult to connect with the other person if they aren’t connected too!

What show would you do next in your dream world?

I’m hoping for more seasons for “The Baby-Sitters Club.” The first season was an absolute blast to film and I hope that I can spend more time on set with the girls!

How do you conquer your nerves?

Unfortunately, nerves never seem to go away for me but before I go on stage or into an audition I take three big breaths. This helps me relax and stay grounded. You don’t want nerves to mess you up! Another thing I do is bring my crystals with me, especially the ones that will help ground me!

Of the roles you’ve played, which one has been your favourite?

Claudia Kishi! “The Baby-Sitters Club” and Claudia is truly a dream job and a role that I’m honored to portray.

What is one message you’d give to your fans?

Thank you so so SO much for all the love and support! I’m truly so grateful for having so many incredible, kind, and supportive fans!

What is your favourite movie or tv show?

So hard to pick, but I have to say ”The Secret World of Arrietty” by Studio Ghibli. If you know me, you know I love anything super detailed and I loved how they used their creativity when it came to utilizing all the little things in their home!
