While the script is still being written, HBO recently announced the third season of the hit show is delayed. HOLR breaks down the details.

Euphoria Season 3 Cancelled?

Variety reports that season 3 of the hit HBO show Euphoria is postponed again. A spokesperson for HBO explained that their cast will be able to “pursue other opportunities,” in the meantime. They anticipate the third season will premiere in 2025.

The latest delay is not the first for the show, which premiered in 2019. Last year’s Hollywood writer’s strikes and the tragic death of castmate Angus Cloud in July 2023 contributed to previous delays. Additionally, several main cast members, including Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya, starred in large-scale Hollywood movies, making scheduling production on the show difficult.

Euphoria Cast Zendaya Sydney Sweeney

Going on to star in Hollywood movies, Euphoria cast members Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi have become household names. Sweeney recently starred in the romantic comedy Anyone But You and the horror film Immaculate, while Zendaya has starred in Marvel’s Spiderman movies and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune and Dune: Part Two. Elordi took on the role of Elvis Presley in Sofia Coppola’s film Priscilla.

Speaking with Elle about her post-Euphoria career, the 27-year-old actress is interested in characters that will push her, “I can’t play a teenager for the rest of my life,”

Rue Bennett, played by Zendaya, serves as the protagonist and narrator. After getting out of rehab, “Rue has no intention of staying clean and struggles to make sense of what the future holds—until she meets Jules, the eclectic, intriguing new girl in town,”

The show is known for its mature depictions of drug use, self-harm, and abuse, leading to both praise and criticism. Euphoria received 111 nominations between the first two seasons, winning 43 of them, including an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Zendaya.

Despite rumors, there is no evidence from HBO thus far that the show is canceled.
