JoJo Siwa, the 19-year-old actress who has publicly come out as lesbian, was recently accused by conservative commentator Candace Owens of faking being lesbian. HOLR has details on what Siwa said about the accusation.
JoJo Siwa Defending Herself Against Owens
As noted by Just Jared, 33-year-old Candace Owens released a video on Twitter questioning the genuineness of Siwa’s identity as lesbian. Owens notably said “I don’t believe JoJo Siwa is lesbian. I do believe she’s desperate for attention.”
JoJo Siwa famously went public about her gay awakening when she revealed on TikTok that she first realized her identity as a gay teen after listening to Demi Lovato’s “Cool For the Summer” and repeatedly watching Jenna Dewan’s Lip Sync Battle. Owens criticized Siwa by saying that the teenager “got attention because it’s a great way to find a community of victims.”

Reportedly, Siwa has not watched Owens’ accusatory video yet but sent the commentator a tweet, asking her to “respectfully back the f– off.”

Candace Owens Problematic Narrative
This is unfortunately not the first time Owens used bigoted language or said negative things about LGBTQ+ individuals. As reported by Hollywood Unlocked, Owens believes that being transgender is a form of mental illness. She has shared her thoughts regarding Dylan Mulvaney, notably stating that “people that support and encourage this are monsters.”

In addition to speaking badly about transgender representation in the media, Owens also made headlines by criticizing a SKIMS advertisement in which a person in a wheelchair was featured. Owens voiced her confusion and disagreement over “inclusivity”, saying that she did not understand why a commercial would show a woman in a wheelchair wearing a bra and underwear.
