American Idol judge Katy Perry was booed after she criticized an outfit worn by one of the talent show’s contestants! Find out below what criticism Katy Perry offered and what the audience thought of it.

Who did Katy Perry criticize and why?

According to Page Six, Katy Perry criticized contestant Nutsa Buzaladze for wearing a sparkly silver dress and a matching pair of boots while serving a high-energy performance of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals hit “Paris (Ooh La La).” While fellow judge Lionel Richie complimented Buzaladze for her wonderful singing, it seemed that Perry was not a fan of Buzaladze’s sparkly looks.

“Listen, one thing that I would like to see from you is not one piece of glitter the next time. I know that is going to be hard,” Perry reportedly said. Buzaladze tried to compromise by saying that next time she would only wear glittery eyeliner.

Luke Bryan, the other judge, chimed in by pointing out that all the glitter reminded him of a gender reveal party.

This criticism took place in Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii on Sunday, April 17th.

This is not the first time Perry has criticized a contestant on American Idol. The singer made headlines not too long ago after she joked about Sara Beth Liebe, a 25-year-old mother of three children, for being a young mom. Liebe has responded by sharing a clip on TikTok to say that “I think women supporting and uplifting other women is great and I think mother shaming is extremely lame and I think being a mother is hard enough and being a woman is hard enough.”

How did everybody else react?

Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan were both surprised that the audience booed Perry for the first time in six seasons. The audience members visibly disapproved of Perry’s comment about Buzaladze’s outfit and showed their displeasure by giving her some thumbs-downs.

It is currently not known yet whether Buzaladze will advance to the next round or not since the results are not out until April 23rd. The contestant, however, has posted on her Instagram account that she is grateful for the genuine support from her fans.

Buzaladze, who is among the top 26 contestants of this season, is a native of Tbilisi, Georgia.
