The royal couple’s  Meghan Markle and Prince Harrymulti-year partnership with Netflix is reportedly ending amid shifting priorities and mixed success.

July 23, 2025: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s headline-making $100 million deal with Netflix is reportedly coming to an end, and sources close to the matter suggest it won’t be renewed.

The deal, signed in 2020 following the couple’s departure from royal duties, was meant to fund documentaries, films, and scripted series through their Archewell Productions banner. Though it initially generated excitement and major buzz, the relationship between the streaming giant and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex appears to have cooled.

Mixed Results and Limited Output

Despite the high price tag, the couple’s Netflix output has been limited. Their six-part docuseries Harry & Meghan, which aired in late 2022, offered intimate insights into their exit from royal life and drew significant viewership. However, follow-up content has been sparse. Meghan’s animated series Pearl was scrapped before release, and other projects haven’t generated the cultural impact Netflix might have hoped for.

A source familiar with the company’s content strategy noted, “Netflix is focusing on more cost-effective and high-performing content. The Sussexes’ projects didn’t deliver consistent results to justify such a large deal.”

What Comes Next?

Prince Harry and Meghan are still pursuing media ventures beyond Netflix. Harry’s Heart of Invictus documentary and Meghan’s recently launched lifestyle brand suggest the couple is recalibrating rather than retreating from public life. They also maintain a lucrative deal with Spotify, though that partnership has also seen turbulence in recent years.

The couple’s team has not officially commented on the non-renewal, but insiders say they’re “grateful for the opportunity” and intend to explore more focused and values-driven content production moving forward.

End of a Chapter

The non-renewal marks a notable shift for the couple, who initially framed their Netflix partnership as a platform for telling meaningful, impactful stories. While some goals were achieved, the broader vision may have been curtailed by business realities and shifting audience interest.

As Netflix tightens its slate and the Sussexes re-strategize their media presence, the end of this deal signals both a conclusion—and a new beginning—for the former royals.
