Shannon Doherty’s Oncologist says Shannon wasn’t ready to go and that she loved life.
July 17, 2024 – Doherty 53, passed away peacefully at her home in Los Angeles on July 13th from stage 4 breast cancer surrounded by loved ones.
Dr. Lawrence Piro is an Oncologist at Cedars Sinai Hospital located in Los Angeles and became Shannon’s confidant and was a source of strength for the actress. He was by her side throughout her fight against breast cancer over the years.
Dr. Piro said to People Magazine, “She was very comfortable, and sleeping, and transitioning. And she was surrounded by some of her very close friends. It was beautiful…” Beverly Hills 90210 and Charm star spent her final hours surrounded by love. She was at peace.
Dr. Piro continued “She was a step above positive.” Throughout her many interviews over the years, she spoke about her battle with cancer and revealed that she wants to conquer it so she can get back to doing what she loves best – which is to work.
Piro explained her views on life – she didn’t think about the cancer only about life and living it to the best of her ability. She was a force. She was engaged in life and only focused on beating cancer.

In recent interviews, the late actress stressed that she loved to work because it gave her a purpose and a reason to get up every day.
Shannon shared her journey on her ‘Let’s Be Clear podcast with Charm co-star and bestie of 31 years, Holly Combs. Doherty was very open and candid about her chemotherapy, remission, post-cancer process and, the cancer returning.
The Beverly Hills 90210 actress, was first diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent chemotherapy in 2015. She fought the cancer, and then it went into remission. However, in 2020, the cancer came back. By last year it had spread to her brain and her bones.
Fans and friends continue to mourn and pay tribute to the late star. She put up such a brave fight not only in front of the camera but in her private life as well. Shannon was known to fans, friends, castmates, and the media – as a force to be reckoned with.

She started her career as a child actress in ‘Little House On The Prairie’ then on to movies like the cult favorite, ‘Heathers.’ But it was her role on the mega-hit show Beverly Hills 90210 that made her a household name. Doherty would go on to play one of three sisters on another hit show, Charmed.
