Raiders fire Offensive Coordinator, Luke Getsy, after getting smacked in the face all game by the Bengals.

November 4, 2024- Things keep getting worse and worse for the Raiders but there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Capping off a five-game losing streak, the Raiders have fired Luke Getsy.

Joe Burrow and the Bengals handed an absolute whooping to the Raiders yesterday. Burrow threw for 5 touchdowns and running back Chase Brown ran a horrendous 120 yards.

The Raiders would fire Getsy shortly after the loss, Antonio Pierce stated that the OC wasn’t “Heading the direction I wanted to go.”

There is currently no replacement lined up for Getsy. Pierce said he will use the bye week to come to a decision.

Luke Getsy Fired

Raiders are 2-7 on the season so far. Not good. But they are one of the 7 current teams who sit with a 2-7 record.

Since the firing of Getsy yesterday, fans have speculated on potential replacements for him. Some think Ben Johnson would be a suitable replacement, but all signs point to Scott Turner stepping in as the interim OC.

Turner is the son of former Raiders head coach, Norv Turner. He had some experience calling plays in Carolina during the 22′-23 season. However, it seems that Pierce will rely on the opinions of staff to make the final decision.

Right now, the Raiders sit at the 6th overall pick for next year’s draft according to Tankathon.

While it’s refreshing to see that the Raiders aren’t committed to losing games, an early draft pick could secure a quarterback for a struggling franchise. Raiders are projected to select either Sheduer Sanders from Boulder or Cam Ward from Miami.

But with a potential OC change, this gives the Raiders the potential to start winning games. Which, as a fan who wants more than anything to see a young promising quarterback come in, is a scary situation. More wins equals a worse draft pick.

Raiders fire Luke Getsy

Watching the Raiders’ offense for the last five weeks has been like getting to the front of the line at Six Flags for your favorite ride only to find out it has just been closed for the day. Disappointing. Raiders are 26th in points per game, with a majority of their scores coming in the 4th quarter while down 20+ points.

So with a Luke Getsy fire, the Raiders now have the opportunity to salvage a losing season. However this comes at the potential cost of a future quarterback. So what is the move? Hiring Ben Johnson would surely guarantee some wins.

Johnson is what some call a play-calling savant. He is the current OC for the Detroit Lions who have the most exciting offense in the league right now. While it is likely improbable that Johnson will leave Detroit this season, that never stops fans from speculating.

Raiders are 2-7 and trending downwards still. They have a bye this week so maybe there will be some big changes when they face the Dolphins in week 11.
