Former NFL player Sergio Brown was taken into custody after his mother’s death last month, police said.

Former NFL player Sergio Brown was taken into custody by police in San Diego, California, on Tuesday in connection with the death of his mother. He had been missing since she passed away last month, according to the police in Maywood, Illinois.

The police said Brown re-entered the United States at the border of Mexico near San Diego on Tuesday.

He is now awaiting extradition to Marywood, about 12 miles west of downtown Chicago, to face the murder charge. This is where the body of his 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, was discovered with multiple injuries near a creek behind her home last month. Extradition proceedings are still underway.

He was charged with first-degree murder after the police issued a warrant for his arrest. The police also revealed an entire picture of the case: his mother’s death was not a suicide but a homicide. Still, the question of how long he had been in Mexico remains.

The Brown family could not reach Brown a day after his mother’s death, and they all regarded the situation with wariness. They notified the authorities, and one family member, Nick Brown, known as Ynickbrowny, the founder and CEO of Glappit, asked for help from SNS.

@ynickbrowny: “Thank you, everyone, for all of your outreach, help, love, and condolences.

It’s a sad but hopeful time, and we will all get through this together. Mom always told me, “Tough times don’t last” and our last conversation about tough times being temporary is my beacon of hope.

Mom, thank you for being strong, caring, diligent, fancy, funny, and for saving my art. I won’t let you down.

My brother Sergio is still missing. If anyone knows where he is I want him to know that I love you and please come home.

People, please don’t approach the property, this is still an ongoing investigation by the Maywood Police Department. If you have any information on Sergio’s whereabouts please send them to the Maywood Police Department.”

The police also began to check the authenticity of a video from an Instagram post by a man resembling Sergio Brown discussing her death. In the video, a man calls to reports about his mother’s death.

“Fake news, fake news, fake news. It has to be the FBI,” the man says in the rambling, expletive-filled video, in which he says he thought his mother “was on vacation” in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. In another video posted to Instagram, the man references the film “Finding Nemo,” repeating the movie’s famous line, “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming,” the AP News reported.

Sergio Brown is a 35-year-old, born in Marywood, Illinois, a former American football star. He has shown outstanding performance as a defensive back at professional teams, including the New England Patriots, since 2010 and played seven seasons in the NFL until 2016.

Brown’s 73-year-old mother, Myrtle Brown, was loved and conscious of her outstanding character by her neighbors.

“Myrtle, she was an outstanding woman, and I’m hoping she’s in the right place and she’s with God,” Carlos Cortez, her next-door neighbor, told WBBM. “I never would’ve expected this in a million years,” according to CNN.
