Ja Morant seemed to be holding a gun with his left hand in an Instagram Live video that was uploaded following the Grizzlies’ 113-97 loss to the Denver Nuggets on Friday while allegedly listening to music at a nightclub. He continued his apology saying,

I’m sorry to my family, teammates, coaches, fans, partners, the city of Memphis, and the entire Grizzlies organization for letting you down. I’m going to take some time away to get help and work on learning better methods of dealing with stress and my overall well-being.”

According to NBA insiders, the league is investigating the star point guard and the video. Mike Bass, an NBA spokesman, informed ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Shams Charania of The Athletic that they were aware of a social media post featuring Ja Morant and were investigating it.

In a separate statement, the Memphis Grizzlies team announced that Morant will be “away from the team for at least the next two games.” He will therefore be absent from Tuesday’s game against the Lakers and Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Clippers.

According to an article by The Washington Post, Morant was also involved in two other altercations last summer. The head of security at a Memphis mall was allegedly “threatened” by Morant in one instance after an altercation in the parking lot prompted the man to call the police, the publication claims.

A teenage teenager reportedly told police that Morant assaulted him during a pickup basketball game at Morant’s house in a second incident. The youngster allegedly tossed the ball at Morant’s head, prompting Morant to retaliate in “self-defense,” according to the police report.

Jim Tanner, Morant’s agent, claimed in a statement to the publication that these allegations were “unsubstantiated rumours and gossip” spread by “those eager to pull Ja down and destroy his reputation for their own financial advantage.”
