Bella Hadid is taking time for herself by putting her health first. A source supposedly revealed to E! News, “She is treating her Lyme disease. Bella Hadid has been on medical leave for the past four months, and is in daily treatment for Lyme disease.” Bella Hadid shared to her fans on Instagram that she receives treatment regularly through IV drips. The supermodel was diagnosed with Lyme disease in 2012 at the age of 16. Hadid’s brother Anwar Hadid also contracted the tick-borne bacterial condition in 2012.

Along with dealing with Lyme disease, Bella Hadid opened up about her relationship with alcohol. But during this time, “She is not in rehab and has never had a drug or alcohol issue.” In March Hadid had shared with the public that she was indeed “5 months alcohol free.” The source confirmed that Hadid is now 9 months sober.

People had previously doubted her Lyme disease diagnosis and her mother Yolanda Hadid had defended these commentators. In 2016 at the Global Lyme Alliance’s second annual gala, Bella Hadid won the award named, “Uniting for a Lyme-Free World.” At the event, before Yolanda Hadid introduced her daughter she said, “It’s hard for people to understand the invisible disability that owns our life, especially behind the beautiful face that shines so bright on the covers of magazines.”
