Cole Sprouse Discusses His Breakup With Lili Reinhart

In the new, ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast episode, Cole Sprouse joins host Alex Cooper. They discuss navigating life as a young actor, his dating life and a certain public breakup with co-star, Lili Reinhart.

Cole Sprouse and his Riverdale co-star Lili Reinhart were the ‘It’ couple since the news of their relationship dropped in 2018. Riverdale fans were ecstatic that the on-screen chemistry they saw during the show from Jughead and Betty was natural and genuine, but once news broke that the two called it quits in January of 2o20, they were crushed.

Now, Sprouse is opening up about the break up when he describes “It was really hard for the both of us.”

“It was really hard for both of us, and that’s okay. I think the work thing got difficult because it was hard to suspend all of the ways we felt about each other, and it didn’t afford us the luxury of distance to really overcome that.” Cole says after being asked how it was working with one another after the breakup.

“I know we both did quite a bit of damage to each other in that. We’re good friends now, which is awesome. We work really well together now.” He adds. 

Pressure Of Dating A Co-star

Cole expresses that at that moment in time, their relationship was perfect for where they needed to be.

“I think that was exactly where we both needed to be. We were in a foreign city working a very intense schedule — 14 hours a day, often time six days a week alone — and we really leaned on each other while also going through the elected trauma of this incredible overnight success, a ton of criticism, a ton of expectation.” Sprouse states. 

“I think we did the best we could, really. I’m very grateful in many ways that I was able to go through it with someone who was going through the exact same circumstances as me.” He closes his statement.

When asked if he believed the relationship lasted due to working together, he was quick to agree to explain,

“Absolutely. There was a lot of pressure, towards other people really. I think if I had loved myself a little more, I probably would have left a little earlier but I just felt like I had to take care of a lot of people, which was not good for me. I probably should have exercised a bit more selfishness in that situation.”

It seems that the two are still good friends and remain on good terms, as Cole has a new girlfriend at the moment, Ari Fournier.
