The Tortured Poets Department

Taylor Swift dropped her new album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” Friday, which details her breakups with Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy. The album offers 32 tracks, including Fortnight which sparked listeners’ alleged concerns.

Taylor Swift New Album Songs

In the opening track “Fortnight,” fans picked up on a lyric that sparks questions about alcohol use. The lyrics go as… “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me / I was a functioning alcoholic ’til nobody noticed my new aesthetic. All of this to say, I hope you’re okay / But you’re the reason / And no one here’s to blame / But what about your quiet treason?”

Swift did not provide other context or explanation for this song, therefore leaving listeners unsure if it’s literal or metaphoric. What we do know is she told TIME Magazine that she quit drinking months before her “Eras tour”.

TMZ pointed out that at every big public event, Taylor’s been to of late … she’s often seen drinking, Including for all the Super Bowl after-parties.

Although all these claims are alleged, what do you think of the lyrics to Fortnight is it a metaphor or is Taylor really struggling?
