In a post-apocalyptic security uniform, Kanye West opened the Balenciaga show dedicated to individualism by hitting off the brand’s mud-filled runway in Parc des Expositions.
Ye walked the mud-splattered runway in all-black leather pants, a jacket with a “security” patch, and a baseball cap. Kanye West’s children North, Chicago, Psalm, and Saint West, as well as Kylie Jenner and Doja Cat, all attended the Balenciaga show, according to Elle.
Denma, the creative director of Balenciaga, described the mud as “a symbolism for digging for the truth and being down to earth.”
“I’ve decided to express a state of mind rather than explain my collections and verbalize my designs,” Demna explained in the show notes. “Fashion is a visual art and all we need is for it to be seen through someone’s eyes. Fashion in its best-case scenario should not need a story to be sold to someone. You either like it or not. The set of this show is a metaphor for digging for the truth and being down to earth.”
West’s runway debut comes just two weeks after the release of Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga Part Two. The collection, which is available on the official Yeezy Gap and Balenciaga websites as well as other online retailers such as Farfetch, Mytheresa, and Luisaviaroma, includes a variety of outerwear and knitwear pieces.
The Long Round Jacket, which significantly lengthens the experience of the previously much-discussed Round Jacket, and the Padded Hoodie are two of the highlights. The Mock Neck Pullover, 5-Pocket Denim Pant, Padded Denim Jacket, Dove Crop Fleece Tee, Shrunken Hoodie, Polar Jogger, and many other items are also a part of the most recent batch of YGEBB.
