Australian actor Michael Bishop is conquering the acting world with new and exciting projects as a talented, rising star in the industry. He is best known for his breakout lead role as ‘DJ Max’ in the Disney Channel Original Movie ‘Spin’ but he also recently joined the cast of the CW series ‘Superman and Lois’ playing the role of Jonathan Kent.

Today, Michael is sitting down to chat with HOLR about how he got his start in the industry, his latest projects to date, and what he loves to do in his spare time!

Tell us more about your passion for acting and how you got your start in the industry.

I don’t even know if I say I got into acting I just kind of always did it, from early as I can remember I was really extroverted, always performing, I was always putting on these imaginary plays and showing them to my cousins and family in the living room and roping all my cousins in and convincing them to play dragons, kings, and queens and then making our grandparents and family watch them. Then when I was about, 11 or 10 I joined a theater class, I think that is when my mom was like we need him to put all this energy into something and then that’s when I really fell in love with it.

You made your American film debut with your breakout lead role in Disney Channel’s Original Movie ‘Spin’ as ‘DJ Max’. Talk to us about this experience.

That was a really fun production to work on. I loved every minute of that, those people were incredible. I met some of my best friends on that shoot, I mean just doing a DC movie was such a thing on my huge bucket list. I think the hard thing about Max in Spin was that I actually had to learn how to DJ or adequately pretend how to DJ and that was tough for me. This was covid times, so we had a 2-week hotel quarantine, and I had my DJ set and I was trying to learn but I was really terrible, I remember my costar was learning at the same time with me and we would do it over zoom with a teacher which already was different but at the end of each day, we would present our improvements and stuff. I remember on the first day I performed and it was garbage and my costar just killed it after one day, and I was like I need to step this up real quick or I’m going to look stupid.

You recently joined the cast of the CW series ‘Superman and Lois’ in which you play the role of Jonathan Kent (known in the DC Universe as Superboy). Tell us more about this incredible accomplishment!

I actually had about 5 days to prepare from when I booked the role. I was lucky that I already knew the character pretty well. I would like to think I am as kind and as good a brother as John. He is a love and respect-first; kind of guy and I would love to think others would think that way about me.

What were you most excited about in terms of the series’ latest season debut, which was released earlier on March 14?

I was really excited that we get to see John in a new light. I was really excited to portray that. I mean, I think he’s sort of starting to finally get the respect that he deserves. He’s such a good kid, and he really deserves all the love in the world. I think audiences getting to see him as a bit of a hero is so exciting. I hope that the show will continue and that, the hero aspect of John grows. Because he, to me, he’s a very heroic person. He does the right things, and he looks off to people and he wants to protect the people around him and I think that’s what it means to be a hero. So, I was really excited to portray that.

We heard that you love trying new things and getting outside of your comfort zone. What do you love to do in your spare time?

I love trying new things, attempting to surf, and usually failing. I love a bit of rugby, I love a poker game, that’s so fun to do. Also just board games in general, I crush a game of Monopoly, honestly. It’s definitely it’s like WW3 when a board comes out, my brothers and I take Monopoly very seriously. You probably don’t want to be in a 10 ft radius of my brothers when we’re playing, Because it’s like, it’s gonna get loud it’s gonna get really loud.

What are some of your future goals?

I think the goal with this acting thing is to continue entertaining. I want to make movies that mean something to people. I want to make movies that you know that people stop and explore a new world and forget about things for a bit. I just want to make some really cool movies. I’d love to play a villain honestly. I just feel like a villain would be so much and sinking myself into a really gritty villain would be a lot of fun and very cool.
