Can you tell me who you’re wearing tonight? It’s the question we all miss hearing from the place we all miss seeing; the red carpet. We haven’t been graced with a real red carpet in almost a year, and probably won’t be seeing one for this upcoming award season.
Red carpets are the go-to place for fashion. One person is always dressed the best, the other the worst, and someone somewhere is always breaking the rules. Red carpets are what fule us, they show us the latest trend, the best designers, and all the looks that are too expensive for our closet. So here are the best from the past.
Angelina Jolie:
How can we not start with a classic black, high slit look? Angelina rocked this look at the 2012 Oscars, and although her leg reveal was turned into an instant meme, you need to admit that her velvet Versace dress made up for it.
Bella Hadid:
People don’t pay Bella Hadid for nothing. In 2016, Hadid shook the red carpet with nothing but a red dress. Not everyone can pull off a red dress but Bella wore Alexandre Vauthie like it was her job (literally). The perfect neckline was nothing compared to the slit that raised way above her hip bone, and could’ve (but didn’t) gave the audience something they wouldn’t (or would) see at Cannes.
Timothee Chalamet:
In recent years men have been stirring up the red carpet more than women. Timothee has been known to ‘dress himself’ but has also done a fantastic job at it. At the 2019 Golden Globes Timothee went beyond the black attire for the night. Along with his black shoes, black shirt, black pants, he wore a black sequined harness. Yes, a harness. That was a look nobody could take their eyes off of, courtesy of Louis Vuitton and Virgil Abloh.
Dakota Johnson:
In 2018 with very short notice, many attendees of the Golden Globes were informed that the “TIMES UP” movement was paying tribute to those affected by industry leaders who have sexually assaulted or harmed women in the industry. With that, as many people as possible decided to wear black in solidarity of this event. Dakota Johnson, a friend of the fashion house Gucci, wore a custom black velvet gown, with an embellished belt and a crystal train, a look that is timeless and breathtaking.
Rachel McAdams:
Adding some colour into the mix, Rachel McAdams showed up to the 88th Academy Awards in 2016 in a silk emerald green Atelier gown. This was a look to remember from the high neck to the open back and down to the high slit to the long train, this was simple, sexy and elegant all wrapped around McAdams, and finished with an updo.
If these looks don’t make you miss red carpets, then I don’t know what will. Plus, I’m positive that the first red carpet when all this is over is going to be the most memorable, beautiful, jaw-dropping experience.
