After many months of health complications, academy award winner Olympia Dukakis has passed away at the age of 89.
Dukakis was known by many and wrote, produced and acted in over 150 productions spanning from theatre to film and television. Her most famous roles were in the 1987 Moonstruck film alongside Cher, a young women thinking of remarrying but is conflicted between a nice and secure man or a passionate and moody one.
Olympia won an academy award for her supporting role in the film. A few years later Olympia had got cast in Steel Magnolias which is known as one of the most heartfelt films for friend groups. In it, Dolly Parton, Sally Field, Julia Roberts and Olympia, who all brought life to the story of a southern group of friends.
Olympia made a lot of achievements in life including a degree for physical therapy at Boston University, who she later helped a lot of people with, but eventually fell in love with the idea of acting.
It wasn’t Olympia’s dream to be an Oscar winner all she wanted was to ‘play the great roles.’ She loved the stage so much she made her own theatre company and ran it for nearly two decades. In 2013, Olympia was honoured with a Hollywood Walk of Fame star, and her legacy and passion for the art of acting will live on forever.
