Them Celebrates 2024 Now Awards

June 12, 2024- Various LGBTQ+ individuals who are at the forefront of culture and change were honored at the 2024 Now Awards on June 10 in Brooklyn, New York.

The awards ceremony, hosted by Them’s editor-in-chief Sarah Burke, featured speeches by honorees Reneé Rapp, Devery Jacobs, Mauree Turner, and others.

Reneé Rapp

Dressed in a white collared top and belted black slit skirt, Rapp accepted the Music Award as Them says she is “Rewriting the rules of lesbian pop stardom.” In an Instagram post from Them, Reneé Rapp reportedly joked about coming out as straight as the opening line in her speech.Them hosts 2024 Now Awards

“I’ve actually come up here to announce that I’m actually straight. This is my coming out,” Rapp said. “No, I’m just kidding. I’m not boring.” Rapp previously identified herself as bisexual in a 2022 interview, but later came out as a lesbian in 2024.

Page is known for his many accolades in the film industry, landing 12 awards under his belt since 1997. Page came out as transgender on an Instagram post in 2020. Page presented the Film and TV award to queer Mohawk actress, writer, and director Devery Jacobs.Them hosts 2024 Now Awards

Devery Jacobs

Jacobs’ breakout leading role was in the film Rhymes for Young Ghouls in 2013, which landed her a nomination for a Canadian Screen Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role. More recently, Jacobs starred in FX’s Reservation Dogs, a TV show that follows the storylines of four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma.
