On their show, Nikki and Brie Bella announced that they are retiring from WWE and returning to their original surname! We investigated their reasons for leaving and have more details.

The Bella Twins’ WWE Retirement

As noted on Page Six, Nikki and Brie decided to retire from WWE. Their decision was made public on SiriusXM on Tuesday. The pair said they “knew it was time for the next chapter” when their contract with WWE ended. The soon-to-be 40-year-old ladies also want fans to understand that they will now return to their birth last name, henceforth known as the Garcia twins. Nikki has explained that they are both “entrepreneurs, executive producers, and mothers”, seemingly implying that even after they will no longer be with WWE they are still going to be very busy.

On Instagram, Nikki and Brie shared a video of themselves opening a huge door, supposedly symbolizing a new era in their lives. They were more than ready to leave their Bella identities behind and see what they can do next. The duo also said on Twitter that they are excited about parting ways with their wrestling personas, wanting to start “owning who we are, being unapologetically us and fiercely walking through that open door.”

Nikki and Brie’s “Bella” moniker was a nickname given by their grandfather, Pop Pop, who used to call them “my bellas”. While they have been using the moniker for 17 years, they feel that going back to their real surname Garcia would give them more freedom and signal that they have officially left WWE.
