The generational sequel to That ’70s Show will now have a second season on Netflix, the streaming service announced on Friday.

The announcement follows the series’ Jan. 19 streaming premiere, which marked the start of the first season. With more than 41 million hours of viewing, the show made it to Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list in 35 different countries.

A 16-episode order has been placed for That ’90s Show Season 2, which is six more episodes than the first season. The cast and crew will return for the second season, which will feature numerous cameos from stars of That ’70s Show. Also, the show will move forward a year, to 1996.

Co-creator and showrunner Gregg Mettler commented, “All of us at That ‘90s Show were beyond excited by the warm, enthusiastic response to our first season. We can’t wait to return to Point Place for another summer of laughs and surprises. Hello, 1996!”

Bonnie and Terry Turner, who also created That ’70s Show, expressed their excitement as well.  “We here in Point Place realize you have many options for entertainment and we’re thrilled you chose us. We look forward to entertaining you for years to come. Buh-bye!” said in a statement.

‘That ’90s Show’ Synopsis

The series begins years after “That ’70s Show” concluded in 1995. “Leia Forman (Callie Haverda) is desperate for some adventure in her life, or at the very least a best friend who isn’t her father,” according to the official synopsis.

When Leia arrives in Point Place to visit her grandparents, Red (Kurtwood Smith) and Kitty (Debra Jo Rupp), she meets the dynamic and rebellious Gwen (Ashley Aufderheide). With the help of Gwen’s friends, including her adoring brother Nate (Maxwell Acee Donovan), his smart, laser-focused girlfriend Nikki (Sam Morelos), the sarcastic and insightful Ozzie (Reyn Doi), and the charming Jay (Mace Coronel), Leia realizes adventure, just like it did for her parents all those years ago, could happen there.”

Original Cast and Crew

Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Wilmer Valderrama, Tommy Chong, and Don Stark from the original series, as well as Tommy Chong and Don Stark, all made appearances in the first season.

Tracey Pakosta, Netflix’s vice president of comedy shows, stated, “We’re thrilled that the incredibly funny stories from Point Place, Wisconsin continue to resonate around the world, no matter the decade.”

Co-creators of “That ’70s Show” Along with their daughter Lindsey Turner and Mettler, Bonnie and Terry Turner also contributed to the creation of “That ’90s Show”. Together with Marcy Carsey, Tom Werner, Jessica Goldstein, Chrissy Pietrosh, and Mandy Summers, they all work as executive producers.
